Do I Need a Special License to Operate a Hi-Rail Vehicle?

In most cases, hi-rail vehicles are subject to the same provincial and federal regulations as other types of commercial vehicles. There are additional Transport Canada and railroad regulations that may apply to hi-rail vehicles.


Hi-rail vehicles must be operated by professionally trained and driver licence holders.


Refer to your contract manager to verify if special training is required to be granted access to sites or work/ construction sites.

Do I Need to Provide Insurance When Renting?

Yes, insurance is required to protect both the lessor and the lessee while ensuring adequate insurance for the leased vehicle. You must provide a certificate of insurance at the time of rental.
